Really? Sounds like you have a deep understanding of what the show is about.
If it was a black comedy, like comedy central had with true Detective, then I have a much more firm opinion.
Being the narrator is irrelevant, it would still be a true crime story if this was what it was about.
So it's literally just set in Chicago?

No. It's about people dealing with and doing things in their current hometown. It's the details of what's going on that makes things relatable, not that everything that happens happens in Chicago, but it does involve many Chicago things nonetheless.

What the fuck is it about then
The location of the shooting. This is not even close to the source material of these comics.
It's about the commonalities of people in Chicago that could be very easily turned into a dark comedy.
But the comic isn't about that, I believe.

It's about the town. This was a terrible book, but it did one thing right, it took the town of Chicago and their problems seriously, if people say something like "a tragedy happened in Chicago, I didn't know any of it, really", then make them believe it. The book at least made you pay attention to the news because of the frequency and the timeline of the killings. I love the show, but it doesn't take the town seriously.

Chicago has been portrayed as the murder capital of the US before, this seems pretty fucking accurate.

The documentary is hilarious BTW. Seriously, you should check it out.

Why does pike call grog buddies. Isn't the term he uses for ravens an oxymoron, since pike is only black and ravens are normally brown? "Friend" is not meant to be taken literally. The official written language (Aard) refers to Black ravens as "baen brooks," meaning "bruising brothers." I think Pike calls a raven Raven because Grog is always telling him about a Raven that saved him. It's just a nickname of "Ravenbro," who they keep locked up in Pike's quarters, since they're unruly. That's the problem. The language that Pike uses has so many contradictions. Isn't the language where they all came from supposed to be an all knowing language? And yet one of the first things they learn... is not to speak that language? There are just so many contradictions of this language.
