Nhl Tendy Tandem

Nhl tendy tandem skills are very cool and underrated. It’s not just the fact that they’re old and they play the same position. They’re good

For sure. When I first watched games on the big screen I was like "holy shit, they're so slow and dump and chase, they're so wimpy!" And now I can appreciate the little subtle nuances of play.

You realise the fastest skater in the world is still out there? It’s not like they’re that slow
He was on pace for a 40+ goals season. That's pretty fucking good.
Still - he's faster than everyone on our roster but Subban.

I would beg to differ for the right guy To your point, Subban has gotten faster through his whole career... But theres still people you still have to use skating as a deciding factor.

You could be correct - but at what point do we say that a bigger guy is less skilled just because they're bigger? Do we still define Patrick Kane as an elite player because he's big and slow, or the smaller guys who are fast? No, that's stupid and at best disrespectful - but at the same time, things change with coaching, or playstyle and conditioning. Being faster in a world of tiny NHL players isn't easy

This is one of the weird problems of hockey stats in general - they reward offense above defense. Smaller players have more of a chance to "win the draw" which means they're more likely to score on a breakaway, which is more likely to happen if you're faster then your opponent. It's weird, so it's easy to make this point, but people still defend it against me. We can't just use what works in small sample sizes (offensive defensemen who play physical).

I can agree with that if it’s to a certain extent. I believe defense wins game. I can agree with speed and size being equal if they are equally used. However, size is just not equal to skill anymore

Fair enough. They used to be equal. And definitely something that is changing. Of course when everyone got bigger it was much harder to skate around guys, but we're finally seeing more NHL players have power, especially the smaller players (it's currently a 7'4" coming back).
