Tristan Rega
Tristan rega has something to offer, but a lot of it is a bit abstract to me. I've tried reading some of it. I don't think i like it, but i havent read much or anything. If you want something more practical, I'd recommend Vernor Vinge, or Dan Simmons
Seconded on Simmons. Simmons might seem pretentious at first but go back and forth between Hyperion and Forever War and you'll realize there's good messages in his stories.
Thirded on Simmons. Start off with Warbreaker. They are quite different, but both are great books that will get you into great series.
Simmons was my gateway book to Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder. His other books aren't a whole lot different.
My gateway to reading is A Song of Ice and Fire Eragon
> and Fire Gee I wonder if that's a coincidence?
no, i'm just getting bored on the train
I recommend some space opera. Not sci-fi but has an interesting setting. I know it's a slow starter but they stick a bit better than the others do (I felt to the end of the Twilight series). The books were named when the first was completed but the series has well over 10 books in it now so keep going. edit: and as far as actual recommendations go, if you have a library card near you there are a bunch of public access streaming or DVDs on the side of the building.
