Utsa Blackboard
Utsa blackboard/website is just that, blackboard. There's no way in hell I'm getting my students on myspace for assignments and such, ha ha.
As a social studies teacher, my school is going to have to install a web-based collaborative version of Websphere. We are SO SOL.
We only have a few classes that use Blackboard, thankfully. I think Blackboard is utter ass, and it costs so much for so little compared to MySpace, and we already have that.
WebSphere is the only worthwhile Enterprise application. Even Lotus and WZ Data can't touch it, IMO.
More like enterprise support. It does so much more than myspace, WZ data, even Adobe. The reason I'm trying to steer people away from blackboard is that it always has issues no matter what connection we're trying to connect it through. The best part is that our vendors software requires installation of blackboard, so it's going to be a clusterfucker to uninstall and try a different one. I just want people to go Google Apps.
There are ways to opt out, but I did not use them so I may be wrong. I remember some special piece of software running on the school server that installs applications to servers after the blackboard admin application has already been installed. If there is no support contract tied to it, I don't see why they wouldn't want to, since there is often better, free software... but probably a cheaper way to do it.
I don't think I can do it. I have no support contract from IBM to go with the purchase. It was a year or less of Dell support. My son's school is definitely using google, so it won't be a major deal. We'll have to switch to Websphere and hope that does the trick. I don't anticipate many problems this year, but the school admins just don't want to deal.
